Emergency Assistance Helps Meet Most Basic Needs

Emergency Assistance Helps Meet Most Basic Needs
The year 2020 isn’t one that will likely be forgotten anytime soon. The global COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all aspects of everyday life including the way we live, the way we work, the way we interact with one another — and the way we serve. For clients who come to Journey to New Life for help as they begin their journey after incarceration, it has created an additional layer of uncertainty and anxiety. When a former offender leaves prison, they leave with very little in their possession. Often, they walk out with only the clothes they are given, nothing more.

Many non-profits are struggling during the pandemic to continue to provide the most basic items to help clients. Basic human needs like socks, underwear, toothpaste, deodorant and even hand sanitizer, Can you imagine not having these things? Thanks to our donors and volunteers, Journey to New Life continues to provide emergency assistance to clients. It looks different under the circumstances, but we’re still here for those who need us.

“One of our guys that came the first week during this told me that he had lost all hope,” said Susie Roling, Director of Operations at Journey to New Life. “He couldn’t get anyone to give him deodorant. Agencies were closed. He had a job interview at Amazon, but he had no clothes, shoes or hygiene products. We provided him with what he needed.”

It takes only a small amount to provide these necessities and restore hope for men and women like him. Take for example what even a small financial contribution like these can do to help someone meet their basic needs:

We need your help now more than ever. Want to help provide basic necessities to our clients in need? Donate today!
