Dear friend, Earlier this fall, JTNL client Jackie (pronounced Jay Cee) reached a milestone he had been waiting a long time for: moving into his first-ever apartment. With the support of his JTNL case manager, Lexi, Jackie spent the day taking meaningful steps toward that new beginning by choosing the furniture and household items that would turn an empty apartment into a home. |

A dignified beginning |
Through our partnership with Flourish: A Furniture Bank, Jackie experienced something both simple and powerful: a dignified shopping experience. Rather than being handed items, Jackie walked the aisles, sat on couches, selected a dining table, chose artwork, and imagined what his life could look like in a place of his own. He was met with care, respect, and time, all qualities that reflected his newfound freedom to choose what felt right for his home. |

Choice, agency, and imagination |
Moments like these matter. Being able to not only choose but to pause, consider, and imagine is part of rebuilding independence. At Flourish, Jackie wasn’t rushed. He wasn’t told what to take. He was invited into the process with dignity and agency, selecting the pieces that would shape his everyday life. |

The unsung heroes behind the scenes |
While Jackie was shopping, Flourish volunteers quietly loaded each item he selected, ensuring the experience stayed focused on possibility and not logistics. From there, our longtime partners at Tullock Transport stepped in. Their team donated their truck, labor, and expertise to transport and set up Jackie’s home, making move-in day seamless and steady. Without partners like Tullock, move-in days can look very different. They can involve rented trucks, stretched staff, and long hours spent managing logistics, all at the very moment we’re trying to reduce stress and center the client’s experience. Tullock changes that. They don’t just move furniture, they carry the weight of the transition, allowing our staff to focus on what matters most: walking alongside someone as they step into a new chapter. |
When home starts to feel real |
Only after all of that work — the planning, the coordination, the quiet generosity — does the moment arrive when home begins to feel real. It’s easy to talk about logistics (furniture, trucks, schedules) but what we’re really talking about is belonging. A table to sit at. |

Laying foundations that last |
At Journey to New Life, move-in day is one step in a much longer journey. Supporting independent living means walking alongside individuals before, during, and long after they receive their keys — through case management, rental assistance, ongoing check-ins, and opportunities to build community and connection. This work is steady. And just like Tullock, our supporters are often the unsung heroes behind every new beginning. When you give, you help build the coordination, staffing, and partnerships that make new beginnings like Jackie’s possible — so those beginnings are not just celebrated but are supported through the next steps. As we close out the year, our community is coming together to close a $25,000 gap so we can continue laying these foundations and help more individuals like Jackie begin again with dignity, care, and a team ready to walk alongside them. |

A community moving forward together, one new beginning at a time. |
On the journey together |
Jackie’s story is just one example of something much larger. At Journey to New Life, progress is never individual. When one person moves into stable housing, gains independence, or begins again, it strengthens the entire community around them. That forward motion is made possible by people and partners who believe that dignity, consistency, and care matter. Supporters like you make this work sustainable. You help ensure that transitions are met with preparation rather than pressure, and that new beginnings are supported long after move-in day. As we look ahead to the year to come, we’re committed to continuing this work together with you. Here’s to this community laying strong foundations, showing up when it counts, and making room for more stories like Jackie’s. Because when one person moves forward, we all do. Thank you for being part of this journey. |
