Seeds of Change

Wow. What an evening!

We’re still feeling the joy and we hope you are, too.

Thank you to everyone who filled The Abbott and listened as women shared their journeys.

Because of you, we’ve raised over $285,000 (and counting!) to support women rebuilding their lives.

Here’s what that makes possible:
We are shifting our women’s residential program from 4-6 months to 9-12 months. That means more time to heal, more time to build stability, and more time to bloom.

That’s the vision. Here’s the reality told by three women who are living it.
Caity, Reva, and Taffny took the stage with moderator Barb Stuber.
They shared where they started. The cycles of incarceration, the long years behind bars, and the fear of walking out of prison with nothing: no ID, no housing, no plan.

They talked about the rocky soil of reentry. The obstacles to housing, employment, and healthcare.

And then they talked about branches. The peer support specialists who had been where they are. The case managers who didn’t give up. The community that said, “You belong here.”

At Journey House and Peace House, growth happens together.

Reva is now a resident, building stability she never though possible. Taffny went from resident to peer support specialist, where she now walks alongside other women finding their way. Caity is a graduate of the program and is proof that transformation isn’t just possible, but it’s happening right here in Kansas City.

They are flowering, and because of you, these branches of support continue to grow.
